We had Emma's neurology appointment this morning. It was bright and early this morning. And of course, since we had somewhere to be Emma would decide to not sleep last night. She didn't go down until a little after 1am. So, I had to drag my baggy, sleep deprived eyes to the doctor. Thank God for coffee.
The neurologist did feel the Doc Band would help Emma. So, she recommended proceeding with the band. She also recommended Emma having a CT scan because Emma's head is measuring larger. Now, I've known Emma's head was measuring larger - around the 95th percentile. However, when I mentioned my concern after seeing the measurements I was told it was ok because "all her other measurements [height and weight] are in the same percentile." So, I thought nothing of it. So, today when the neurologist mentioned it was a cause for concern I didn't understand. I called Emma's new peditrician when I got home and talked to the nurse. She said it was a cause for concern and thought we were proceeding the right way.
This is my problem with doctors. Not one doctor ever mentioned to me that her head measuring large was a cause for concern. I thought since her weight and height was around the 95th percentile also it was OK. I thought it would only be a concern if her height and weight were measuring say 70% or something.
Each time I take Emma to the doctor I am waiting for the doctor to say "Oh, she's fine" or "It's nothing to worry about." Instead I get "this is a cause for concern." I keep thinking I'm overreacting but when people tell you it is a cause for worry then I really worry.
I am waiting for the CT scheduler to call for our appointment. I know it can take a while to get in. Emma has a follow up appointment at Cranial Tech on March 16th. Hopefully, we can get her scan in before then. I talked to Cranial Tech today and they said if her scan is back and no further intervention needs to be done besides the band then we will proceed then.
