It wouldn't be my life if it wasn't constantly changing :)

Just wanted to give everyone the update! As many of you know, I have scaled back working on the Ph.D for now. I'm not sure whether it is/was the pregnancy hormones and the different environment but I really did not like going to school fulltime and working on campus. The University scene is very different than the classroom scene. I felt teachers were regarded as objects that needed to be taught and not valued for their talents. In the last couple of years, I have worked with a host of talented teachers that could do circles around some of the University professors. Not only that but it seemed my pregnancy was regarded as an obstacle. That was most difficult for me to deal with. Apparently, pregnancy is not highly regarded in the Ph.D. circles - or at least when you are working on getting your Ph.D. I say all this not to bad mouth UNCC. I think they have one of the finest departments out there. However, the timing was all wrong for me.

So, I've been debating should I get a full time job now or wait until after Emma is born. The stay at home life isn't for me. You can only watch Dr. Phil so many times before you start going stir crazy! And time is passing SOOO slowly. So, I decided to look for a full time job. If I found one great if not then I'd look again after Emma was born.

I wanted a job I would like though. Which I worried wouldn't be the case since it is past the start of the year. I didn't want to get what others had passed up. I happened to stumble upon an opening at Idewild Elementary in CMS. I interviewed a few weeks ago. I told Hai the chances of me getting a job, while pregnant, were slim but I would go just for amusement. I didn't hear anything for a week so I pretty much figured Emma and I lost the job. However, last Friday I received a call telling me they wanted to hire me!

Idewild is very similar in composition to A.T. Allen. So, I think I will be at home there. In addition, this is a new position - not a position someone left. And apparently, the turn over at Idewild is quite low. Also, the location is great because Emma's daycare is in Mint Hill - not very far away from Idewild. I will be able to drop her off of the mornings on the way to work. Another bonus is the hours. I have to be at work by 8:30am which will give me some time in the morning with Emma.

I am very excited to start this job! I am sure I will have a lot of learning to do...CMS does their EC a little different - mosly inclusion from what I hear. So I am looking forward to trying new things. But most of all, I am so excited to be back in the classroom. One thing I think I have learned from my C&S internship and stint at the University is how much I love teaching and being the classroom.
