So, last time I wrote about the surprises of pregnancy I wrote about body image, tynelol, and the joy of Old Navy. Lately, I've been thinking about the "side effects" of pregnancy that no one mentions. Now, I'm not complaining - so don't give me the "You shouldn't complain because you are so lucky to be having a baby" speech. I am lucky. I love my child. But there are some things that come along with pregnancy that make you go "SERIOUSLY!!" But you suck it up and move on.
Hair. How many times have you heard that during pregnancy your hair will be stronger than ever? It will shine just like the L'Oreal commericals. Well, apparently my hormones did not communicate with my hair. Because my hair is not strong. In fact it is falling out. Yes, falling out. Now, I don't have a big bald spot to be Exhibit A. But I do have a sink full of hair each morning to illustrate my point. Apparently, this is very common in pregnancy. Your hair thins and falls out. Excuse me, why didn't anyone ever mention this? This is a relatively BIG thing. My hair stylist assures me my hair will return to normal after the baby is born. Well, not exactly after. She said after the baby is born it may continue for a little bit but then shortly after it will return to normal.
Swelling. Everyone knows in pregnancy you swell - even I knew that. However, I wasn't prepared for how soon I started to swell and how it would feel. I started last week with horrible swelling. It was wasn't just my ankles - it was my hands, face, legs. I gained 3lbs in water retention (in ONE week). This is just one of those things you have to suck up. I am sporting some nice crocs - the slipper kind not the hideous ones you see at the beach. Crocs have saved me. Or at least my ankles.
