Father's point of view

I thought I would write down my point of view about the experience. Vanessa did a good job of summarizing it all up so mine won't be as long. I found out we was checking into the hospital sometime monday while working on tuesday at 7:00 p.m. My first thought was "Should I skip out on work or not." It was an exciting time and I didn't feel like working. I went to work though but I did leave an hour early so we can have everything we needed for the hospital. Our "last" meal was at R & R and I thought it was funny that little kids were getting on Vanessa's nerves.

Ok we check in on tuesday at 7:00 hung out for a little bit and vanessa got her Cervadil but had to get it taken out around 3:00 wednesday morning because baby Emma wasn't liking it. 7:00 the that morning was when Vanessa got induced. Vanessa was stuck around 1 cm for what seemed like forever. around 1:00 p.m. Dr. Overbey broke her water and the fun began. just kidding. He pretty much told us the baby will be there by tonight. So we were excited but that didn't happen. Around 7:00 that night Vanessa got her epidural and we were told that the next morning we will start pushing. They checked her 5:00 thursday morning saying we are going to start pushing but they checked Vanessa and said she isn't thinned out enough so we had to wait longer. By the time it was time to really push, Vanessa's epidural wasn't really working and she was in pain. I give women props for being able to go through this because I won't even come close to do what Vanessa did. Vanessa pushed and pushed but nothing. The nurse said she couldn't feel Vanessa pushing. Dr. Newman came in and said we are going to try to suction her out and if that doesn't work than a c-section is needed. Well the suction didn't work and off we go to do the c-section. By the time I got in the room, they were all set up and by the time I sat down they had begun. They say you aren't suppose to feel anything during a c-section. WRONG!!! Vanessa's faced showed all the pain in the world. When Emma was coming out, the anesthelogist said she is coming, stand up and look and as soon as I stood up I saw her crying. When they wiped her down, I immediately started taking pictures and then I got to cut the umbilical cord.

The first night we had Emma it was rough. We were up every hour of the night but I didn't mind it all. I enjoyed changing her diaper and feeding her and watching her fall asleep in my arms. Second day/night went great. She slept pretty much all day and woke up to eat every 2 hours. 3:30 a.m. comes and the nurse comes to take the baby for her hearing test (I won't get into detail about what happens next so just read Vanessa's latest blog).

Going through what we went through the next few nights was hard. Not a lot of sleep but a lot of crying. Never knew you can love someone that you barely know until you have a baby. That's why I do not understand why people do not want to take care of their baby or be part of their baby's life. Why wouldn't you, am I right?? Well the first time we saw her in the NICU she had her own room which I was scared because why are they isolating my baby. The nurse warned her she will be hooked up to machines and even a tube down her throat. When I saw her, I couldn't handle it. I cryed my eyes out and somehow Vanessa kept it in. She was lying their peaceful but I wished that I was in her place but she didn't deserve to be there. The nurse asked us do we want to sit down and I sat down in the one chair we had forgetting that my wife just went throught >24 hours labor and a c-section. Those nights were real hard and its getting me emotional just trying to talk about it so I will stop on that subject.

Sunday comes along, we have been at the hospital for 6 days. and Emma finally comes back to us. Vanessa got discharged but Emma could not go home yet until they evaluated her. Another emotional time because we were ready to go and we wanted to take Emma home. Monday comes a long and we wait and wait paging the nurse asking when can we go home and we finally get our wish around 1:00 that afternoon.

Ever since we've been home and it has been great. Can't wait for Christmas.
